@mulegirltx: OK, now I’m wondering who decided the offspring of a stallion and a jenny is a “hinney” and not a “stenny”…and of course, wondering about the pronunciation. I assume it has a short i…otherwise it would be a “hiney.” Which, I guess, would make it an ass, and now I’ve gone in some kind of weird circle.. 🙂

“It’s only (insert time).” Boy, did I recognize THAT one!

Weird; everything on the site is now displaying center-justify….

OK, read the original link. Or at least, the opening paragraph with the description. Sounds totally like me, and also totally like ADD inattentive. Is there a difference? Is the treatment the same? Seems like stimulant meds would be a logical remedy for a slow tempo!

Ignore last post…and where is the edit button? Serious question; I can’t find it.

The post with the actual quote:
@larynxa: I haven’t even read the link, much less most of the comments, but when I saw this in your post: “In the right situation, I’m dazzlingly extroverted, basking in all the attention, and always with a quick quip at the ready.

But otherwise, I’m very introverted, preferring to stay at home, or to sit in a quiet corner with a friendly cat or dog who happens to be there. Especially at parties…which I generally avoid completely.”

Well, I had to say, Wow, me too! As a fellow singer, I find it really interesting that I have this dual nature, since the introvert side seems so at odds with performing. But really, it’s mostly at odds with job-seeking in performing, rather than performing itself. Performing isn’t about me; it’s more about getting away from “Me.” It’s certainly about doing, rather than being. The worst thing for me is when the performing stops and the chitchat starts.

And now back to the thread, already in progress… 🙂

These are GREAT! I can relate to all of them, but TGMMI and the many versions of RL definitely struck a chord!

I fear inventing new acronyms because as a somewhat clueless middle aged mom I’m probably going to inadvertently use letters that already have a meaning that is not at all related to the phrase I intended, but rather than spend a morning Googling all the possible combinations I’ll just say context is everything and hope for the best.

Alas, the ones that first come to mind for my most-used expressions would never catch on, since we don’t need acronyms for non-computer moments:

    SWL – Sorry, wasn’t listening
    STA – Say that again
YWW – Yes! Wait, what? (for all those Sure-I’m-listening moments, especially with spouses/children)

Here’s one I do type a lot, though: Just saw your message….

I did Google that one and some dude on YouTube was proposing it as his own new, unique acronym for Just Shut Your Mouth, but I suggest we don’t need any more versions of that idea, so I’m sticking with my version. Think how much time you could save typing JSYM at the beginning of all your apologetic, delayed replies!

You could add that it was LOS – for lost in the spam – if you don’t want to advertise that you rarely check or act on your inbox! 🙂

I’m sure there are many of us with this one; because – OMG, we’re all online RIGHT NOW! 🙂

For me, it’s Google tangents; I click one link, it leads to another…and another…even when I don’t go off on a tangent, I need ten versions of the same information before I am satisfied…and it’s all just SO FASCINATING…..

The real question is, how many shows do I still have on my DVR hard drive waiting to be watched/deleted/burned onto a disc! 😀

    56 and counting….

I did laugh – especially at the bit where Rick pulls a movie off the shelf only to discover the box is empty. On top of every player in our house is: 1) a pile of empty DVD cases and 2) a pile of DVDs. It drives my husband CRAZY – and me as well, when I notice it, even though I’m the culprit!

    Indecision is my middle name!

Well, till I think of a better one. 🙂

But truly this has been a lifelong problem for me. I examine everything at every angle and when I’m done I’m more stuck than when I started. I used to spend hours at the grocery store, going up and down every aisle, pondering every potential purchase down to the last pea. I won’t even go into how agonizing the Actual Decisions (school, career, relationships) have been over the years.

Did I mention I’m Inattentive Type, and not Hyperactive? 🙂

Funny thing is that with the ADD diagnosis and meds I’ve noticed myself becoming more decisive, but it still sometimes feels overly impulsive to me. Which is weird – like I almost feel more ADD than before, because I’m making purchases without so much research and far less self-justification. And I’m not sure how well it’s working – Time will tell if I actually use that sewing machine, I guess. It arrived more than a week ago and it’s still in the box….But I’m definitely feeling like I’m in an adjustment period when it comes to decision-making these days.

Which is another way of saying I can’t decide how I feel about it, I guess. AAARRGG!

Cleaned up my online calendar; got rid of duplicate recurring appointments that were cluttering up the page. Of course it was a nice way to re-acquaint myself with what’s coming up in the days ahead! Hoping to find on a way to make checking the schedule an actual habit….

    “I’m almost done.”
“Yes, I’m coming to bed, after I Google this one thing.”
    “Really? I totally missed that.”
“I’m sorry – can you start over?”
“OH! Wait – I have to interrupt you before I forget this.”
    “I don’t understand – I JUST HAD them…”

Peter, I don’t know where you live, but I’m moving there; our county fines everybody, kids included; they know it’s the parents who fork over the fees. :)

Since I’m often guilty of charging out my books on their cards to avoid the 50-books-at-a-time limit (yes, really….) it’s probably fair of them to charge fines for the kids’ cards…

And, yes, fewer books at a time is one of my new self-imposed limits!
