Oops, bit late on this one.  I think most of these could be very beneficial.

Bit Like MarieAngell, I like the idea of figuring out what to do with myself career wise.

Identifying and Building on strengths is one I would liek to see at some point.  I think I am procrastinating about the procrastination one though so get it done earlybefore I think of a good reason NOT to cover it.

Not sure I want to discuss electronic addictions, but that would be my addiction talking.  THough thsi site is increasingly becoming a large aprt of my internet addiction so that’s a good thing right??

Is this another new software system? or was that the one we just had?

and just to re-iterate your last point in song form:

“We’re ALL in this TOGETHER…….”  oops forget the rest.

MarieAngell, that makes you part of the gang.  Does that make Rick “Cool”????

Wow Megan, I am continually getting surprised at the fantastic people I am meeting on these threads.  People who are facing struggles siumilar to mine, as well as come I would never even dream of and still seem to be able to keep going.  You sound like you have the basics there, just need a little support and perhaps some good real world tips to ease through the more challenging moments, how do you deal with a  kid who wants to wear dress up clothes all the time?  Let alone just a handful of outfits.  You have 3 kids who are fed, clothed and most importantly, Loved.  This is the most important thing in the world.  Just think, Linears (a term I have heard here and quite like) gave us the GFC, not the crazy impulsive ADDers.  We have too much compassion for that.

Show them who you are, stay strong and never EVER give in.  You are well on your way and by engaging with this community as much as possible, I am sure you can keep the momentum going, keep us updated.

    Hi All,

I know, change is hard and losing functionality can be a right pain in the proverbial, BUT, Rick and the team are really trying to create something special here.  Doing that costs money and with what is here, plus what is coming, it should be well worth it.

I have sent a message ot the developers to see if we can get the search function expanded to include old posts, maybe we can do the last 2-3 months or something?  I don’t know yet but as soon as I get an answer I will post it here.

Carsonky, please don’t give up on us yet, the success of this site depends on mixing ALL the ADD/ADHD flavours and I can see that the diversity of posters is one of the biggest strengths here.  You are free to remain a free member, trawl the forums, post etc… and I would hate to think that some changes trying to make this site better will make people feel they are being forced away.  Change is not always easy, but it is the only constant in life (think about that one, how sad a reality it is, the only thing we can count on never changing is change, I think my brain just exploded.)

Anyway, keep with it, as soon as someone finds out we will put it here for all to see.

btw, check some of the newer trending posts, or ask a new question and we might just find a new perspective on old issues.

*pat, pat* nice work, even worse is when you can’t even wait for it to  finish cooking properly.  I hear ya and now I am inspired to actually cook something properly, then wait.

Don’t apologise, I am glad to see it still going.  Have had an interesting time over Christmas, hope you all have as well.. I am now back in my 9-5 grind (grrr.) and didn’t quite get to the soul searching on what to do with myself but that is a fact of life for me.

Allan, mate, I think our Angel has said very well and I am going to try and get a bit better at life, see where it gets me.

I considered signing up for our Army and doing a 12 month stint, they are offering these now, but teh Meds I am on means that they won;t even look at me, not sure dropping off them in NORMAL society for 6 or so months, THEN trying to apply will be beneficial to anything else in my life so I am shelving that idea.

I thought about Accounting, owning my opwn business and getting my super organised sister to work for me (she is on maternity leave PA to an Accountant so I know she can do it) so I can focus on the fun of schmoozing clients, finding loopholes etc… while she makes sure the reports go in on time etc.. but I am not sure if it is the right move.

I am also more than a little interested in trying to help people like us, but probably should try and “get my shit together” first, though studying psychology would be a good step towards this end.  My wife has said she will support me whatever, but this time I need to follow through, not drop it like it’s hot when I get bored or overwhelmed.

I have just received ADD and Loving it as well as the 3 DVD pack they are selling here in the shop, will have a look at the and see what I think.  I am still trying to get a proper grip on all this stuff, I have been reading for yearws on various things, some I remember, but waiting for the right combination of inspiration and background knowledge to actually get something happening.

Any suggestions for free career guidance type stuff, for someone who hates writing his yearly reviews because he can tell you all the bad stuff but forgets what he might be good at?

Yeah totally stuck on that one ml myself.  According to MBTI I am ENFP and I found an ADD website that combined ADD and temperament to offer guidance in career.  But mine said something Bout having a wide vocational range etc.. totally not helpful.

    Wow, still going.

Allan, I am a Sydney boy, thinks for the welcome mate. Canberra joint hahaha (not gonna explain that one 😉 )
Looking forward to talking with another Aussie, funny how we always seem to find each other.
Larynxa, Lano and Woodley were funny, but no longer together. They have done a few stints on the Aussie comedy festival and some if our local shows like GNW and Spicks and Specks, but not much else lately AFAIK.
Good catch with the book and if you watch true Aussie humor there are always those in jokes. Re-watch Crocodile Dundee as a giant piss take of the tough Aussie bushman, pretending to shave with his knife, looking at the watch, then the sun and declaring the time etc… But always with a straight face, no wink, no acknowledgement. “Gettin square” is another but I think you can understand it with the current rise of our girl Rebel Wilson over there.

SDWA I hear you mate, a dingo is a native dog, brought from Asia by the aborigines some 30,000 years ago or something, there was a big case in 1980 where a dingo took a little baby out of her tent in the outback. The cops blamed the parents and the poor mother spent years behind bars. Google chamberlain, lindy.

I think sweater is the right one, also perhaps pullover might even be closer.

I never did go to uni (college) but am thinking options right now as I see my business going overseas more and more. Plus I have been trying to move up but keep coming second or third in interviews. Maybe accounting to run my own biz or nursing?? Not really sure at this stage.
Keep positive for your son, he needs you now more than he realises. The military could provide good structure but he would be wise to aim high, officer, linguistics something that will provide a future beyond the military.

Oops I hate when I get caught sermonising. (And I will continue to spell certain words the British way like organise sermonise etc… Apologies but it is who I am… Soapboxing it again…)

I guess my point is, let’s see what we can get from this new and improved site, maybe see if he will get involved, I know it is already having a profound impact on me (I m no longer alone, so many things said seem so familiar etc..) sometimes this type of exposure can do a lot to build self esteem. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that it has me a little bit like a school kid again, but better because I feel I am part of something not watching and hoping I don’t cop shit.

My son starts highs school next year, I am trying to get myself together so I can help him. High school was horrid for me, rocks thrown during class, sucker punches in the gym, constantly being excluded etc… And I am determined to not have my son go through the same trials.

Like you, I am losing my point, but hey, we are all in this together and in thi brave new global world I think there is more potential for our kids to break the mould, what they now know about all the ADHD types compared to when we were kids is incredible and there is still a long way to go. SOe recent reports in the media regarding Gen Y and beyond make me think that maybe their way of doing things will be a bigger benefit in the future as they juggle more contract based work, have multiple careers in their lives and live more connected to so many things that having to do 50 things at once to keep your brain going could be beneficial.

That is my hope anyway, but needs to start with me, modelling is still the most powerful method of wielding influence and by modelling the behaviours of a Man seeking to better himself and work with the cards he has been dealt, perhaps that is all that they need to break further, then their kids will go even further.

Of course I could see things very differently in the morning (it is 0120 here at the moment.)

I hear ya SDWA, stay strong and remember when life gives you lemons, make lemonade, then find someone who got vodka from life and you can have a party.

Hi Wgreen, I would have loved to have tried the Montessori school system for my kids if I had the coin for it ( but being add myself, making stacks of money isn’t easy.)

Something better than “sit still and listen to me drone on, don’t question, then do a test” would be great. Unfortunately a complete overhaul to gain the best results for all is really required as the current system suits a reasonable percentage, but misses out on the extreme edges of the curve and this leaves some kids behind while completely missing out on some of the fantastic contributions that could be made by those at the top but a little different.

Until we break this tragic consumerist/capitalist cycle we are caught in where everything is paid upwards, I do not think we ill get anything better though. Not talking communist, I think we need something a bit more middle ground where you can be independent but the basic supports are there for all, we have the tech and knowledge for it, only greed stopping it from being truly universal.

Don’t get me started on the rights/responsibilities discussion, I will just say that our universal declaration of human rights has had the unintended consequence of diluting responsibilities to society.

Time for a walk I think, must be wound up today…

I was always on the outer anyway, too quick to anger over “silly stuff” for most of the kids but I don’t recall that being a driver for them picking on me much as I got to the end of my primary schooling, gave them plenty ofother aammunition for that :-(

I should have done this a year ago when I first created my login, feeling less like an outsider ( not gonna use the i word just yet though).

    Kids are fun aren’t they…

Oops could reveal too much here but I did have issues as a little kid with the “number 2” and leaving it too late. Too scared I would miss something i guess. Grew out of it when I copped crap for smelling (like crap).

Me and this forum could be a bad combination, feeling too at home and revealing more than I thought I ever would already. Not to mention I am now 4 of the 5 latest updates at the bottom.

Yeah I was on the 9 month shuffle until a. Stint on unemployment pushed mt to my current company, looking for a 12 month job. 3 years later my boss practically pushed me to another department. Never gonna make team leader in the old one. Moved to corporate, stayed for 3 years and them my new boss sent me to an onside role with one of our corporate clients. This was great as they needed someone to constantly put out fires for em in data networks and such, now I do accounts payable as well as fixing data issues, plus I take on anything left field that the rest of the team just look at and shrug their shoulders. Well respected enough where I am, they know I am bad with the follow up But don’t like it anymore (once I fix it I lose interest) not getting any further either, passed over 6 times this year for people who are more thorough but boring.

Looking for a new direction, maybe accounting? Software does the boring stuff nowadays.
