Do you find that thedrugstore machine is consistent. For about $40 bucks U S you can get a good one and check your B P several times a day and keep a log. I find it helpful and I to will stop taking meds for a couple of days to give my system a break and I find that my B P goes down, Soemtimes I will do meds every other day depending on what I have going on – again to break it up. Usually after 3 days max I feel like I have to get back on. I think that is the beenfit of adderal or concerta because it is more topical and goes out of your system., STraterra yiou have to take consitrently all the time., Get your own B P monitor, money well spent. Good luck.

Hey Karynk – I had the same concern and side effect with Adderal. The situation got a litlle better when I switched to adderal XR. I too went to the pharamacy and had my B P checked on the machine. My reccomendatio is to go out and buy a good home B P nachine, as I found out that the ones at the pharmacy can be very inccurate and all over the lot.

I actually stopped taking the emdication for a week. Then I took my blodd pressure at hime sveral times a day for a few days. Then I went to my doctorts office and had the nurse take my b p and then I took my b p on my machine to compare and get base. I found out that the B P on my machine was 10 to 15 point shigher than the nurse got, so I was bale to factor that in.

I also found out that b p on your left arm could be 10-15% higher than on your right arm. I keep a running log and check my bp several times a day 2 to 4 days a week. I have also gotten into the habit of getting off the med for a couple of ays in a row to give my b p a break and this seems to help. I usually don’t need to focus as much on the weekends, but I find usually after 3 days off meds I start to slip. Hope this is helpful

… Purlgurl, my apolgies if my comments are out of line, but I think most of us have enough on our plates trying to deal with symptoms etc. Don’t mean to over react, but politics are a touchy subject for many depending on one’s point of view and back ground and current financial and personal situation. I just don’t think it adds to the conversation in this forum.

There are sites and forums to express such things

I know for me it is probably part of the impulse control of ADD – usually happens at night when I have down time. I also tend to have a drink or two from time to time in the evening when I am wired, probably not the best habit to foster either. I think when we find ousrselves doi ng something we know is not productive whether it is dietary or otherwiose … we need to at least first take a look that it might be the ADD talking and try and restrain and refrain at least for a while to see if the impulse passes. My two cents

… maybe you should knit Obama a sweater. Really, Bush again? Really? This President has been in office for over a year and a half and has tripled the defiit, 10% inflation.. blah, blah… I’m not going to even get in to it. Why would you make an erroneous/superfluous political statement when you know that there will be a portion of people who don’t agree with it? It doesn’t advance the good will and comaraderi that this website strives for, reardless of one’s political persuasion.

This is a site for people who are sufferring from ADD, not a political soap box – whether you are pro or con whatever political party.

Maybe you could spread some of that compassion that you feel for kids with disabilities around and keep your poltical feelings to yourself. I could say something like, “Just wait, the government is working on solving your problem so keep knitting and you’ll get a check in the mail any day now.”…. but that would be unkind.

I’m sorry, that last comment was disespectful … but can we leave political and religious beliefs out of the conversation beacuse it never leads any where productive with trying how to cope with ths thing

How do you think a comment about someone thinking about doing to the current president, that you said you imagined doing to the previous president would fly on a post? Probably not so much huh?

P S – I thought I saw a video in which “Mr. Rick” – indicated that he does not take medication and I was just wondering if that is the case – what methods or treatment he uses to control his system

Thanks Dude look forward to your posts on your experience. I am currently taking meds and plan on as long as they are helpful and safe but am also looking for alternatives. As it is I take meds 4 to 5 days a week – adderal – and I generally will either skip a day or sometimes take a day or to off becasue I am concerned with HBP – I do usually feel after 3 days that I see a marked negative diffrenc in comncentration – but if I am away at the ebach for a couple of days, i don’t feel I need a high level of focus and it gives my sytem a break.

Count your blessing I am 47 and just dfagnosed. You have your whole life a head of you. We all have had pain becasue of this, but now you know. So after you finish feeling angry about it – which is fine for a while – suck it up and go build a life for yourself!

RE: Your Post:: @BAM123, there is no reason to stop doing something that works for you unless it is dangerous; if it’s not dangerous to your health or your pocketbook, and you don’t withhold or discourage other treatments for someone else in favor of your remedy, who cares what we say? Go for what works!

    I agree 100%.

I would be interested in anyone who has had SUCCESS with an alyternative treatment – be it meditation, martial arts, nutriion. Or a success story of somone who got off of or reduced medication.

I am on adderal xr which reduces my symptoms but I am concerend about High Blood Pressure with long twerm use. So anyone with some good news about alternativers, love to hear from you.

I concure make sure you get treatment – more than likely the right medication will releive your symptoms and allow you to see and feel the difference in behavior. I have learned this is not a self control issue or something you can WILL yourself out of/ I still look for natural ways and methods to control symptoms – but you meed to get soem releif and perspective first and that means treatment is a must to start with.

I am on generic Adderal X R – the concerta XR – that made a huge difference for me went I went to extended release.

They are both in the stimulant family. The adderal really works well for me – but everyone is different. I tried welbutrin for a week in conjunction with adderal and I had the same kind of reaction as you did on concerta. Ask your doctor – iof you aren’t feeling right it may be time for you to ask doctir about alternatives

I can relate. I feel the same way usually pretty patient and easy going but do lose my temper from time to time – seemingly over small things. I think it is a manigfestation of the symptoms of ADD – the frustration can add up cummulatively and then it gets to a point where a small or big event can set you off and then you are fine again – maybe fpor a week or maybe for a month. I think subconsciously the ina ttentiveness can make one frustarted and it gets stored up and the frustration coimes out – we feel bad about opur behavior. I think the most important thing is to remember to apologize when the out burst is out of line – that does go along way with loved ones and associates
