January 6, 2011 at 6:33 pm in reply to: Male urinary/sexual problems with Strattera – does Flomax work? #98475
Update on my own thread here-
Adding Flomax appears to have solved the urine retention/flow/getting up 6 times during the night side effects I was experiencing with Strattera. We’ll see if it holds as I increase from 25mg to 40mg.
REPORT ABUSEAsthma doesn’t go away – it is a physical medical condition of the lungs. Perhaps you haven’t had an ATTACK since 12, but you still have Asthma. And smoking (anything) when if you have that condition is ridiculously stupid.
Sorry but I feel your lack of knowledge about this, goes hand in hand with your misguided impressions about the “benefits” of “medical” pot.
Perhaps having your head in a cloud of blue smoke all the time is what does that to you.
REPORT ABUSEPhilabuster- please don’t let some uninformed idiot’s comment on a government WEBsite discourage you from a medication that might be right for you. Great to hear you’ve found a med that seems to offer you some improvement.
Dr J stressed in the sessions I attended that Ritalin is among the safest drugs available. I’m sure there are some videos on this site which talk about this and the other meds available, if you want to research it more.
I also remember Dr J saying to “just make sure you sit at your desk in front of your work” before taking Ritalin. He made a humorous comment like, “if you are sitting in front of the TV when you take it, you will watch TV really, REALLY well”
REPORT ABUSEJanuary 6, 2011 at 6:17 pm in reply to: 40 years old and seeking medication for the first time #98637paresthesia! That’s what the name I couldn’t remember the other day.
Funny thing is I don’t really feel it this time around. For some reason the side effects I am experiencing on the med this time (as opposed to 2 years ago) are somewhat different. Almost no tingling sensation, more urine retention and even lower “flow”. Slight stomach ache whereas none last time, and pseudo constipation I never had before. On the bright side, less ball-ache and the sexual timing issues seem to have disappeared.
Just increased to 40mg from 25mg so we’ll see how it progesses.
For the uninary issues I’ve been put on Flomax, which I’ve been taking once every 2 days instead of every day, and it solved the problems when I was on the 25mg dose. We’ll see how it works on the 40.
REPORT ABUSERainbow, may I ask what kind of side effects you had on the trazadone?
I remember Dr Jain saying in one of his lectures that studies have shown that when they take a person and chroniclly deprive them of sleep you end up with someone who functions like they have ADD. So, taking care of your sleep issue may be a huge step in the right direction.
Best wishes in your quest to get these issues sorted out.
REPORT ABUSESo glad to hear you are willing to try another. From what I hear it really is a trial and error process for a lot of ADDers. I myself tried 5 before settling on the one which seemed to work for me the best.
For interest’s sake can I ask if you tried genuine Concerta or a generic version? You may have to look at the markings on the pills themselves to tell. Generic meds are not always identical to the original, and I know there is at least 1 ADHD med where there is an issue.
REPORT ABUSENow that right there is funny !
REPORT ABUSERay- funny you should mention the burping issue. I didn’t have the issue before, but during the last few days I have — all this after reading your comment, of course.
Maybe it’s the power of positive (or negative?) suggestion. If that’s the case, I’m going to request you brag about how much Strattera has improved your sex life. Maybe that one will catch on over here too. lol
Sorry, but that’s simply a load of BS cart. There are plenty of more effective meds available for every single malady that pot is prescribed for.
If all the tried and true ADD meds do NOTHING for you, then perhaps your medical team needs to take another look at their ADD diagnosis as it’s very likely it isn’t correct. As Dr Jain has said many times before, there are LOTS of other maladies that mascarade as ADD.
The meds are proven, and with today’s spectrum of choices one of them should provide at least some relief from ADD impairment. The side effect profile, on the other hand, is a seperate issue. The telling tale of ADD medication is what those closest to you see in terms of it’s effect. Our own perception can be very distorted. I’ve met people who were drunk or stoned believing they were geniuses while high when the truth of the matter was they were jotting down gibberish and pissing themselves on the way home from the party because it was cold out and they thought it would be a good idea to warm up.
The pro-pot lobby started as nothing more than a bunch of hippies with cancer who decided they wanted to spend their last days with their heads in the clouds rather than down here on planet earth.
REPORT ABUSEDid you doctor endorse the doubling up your Adderall dosage? Perhaps if you were doing fine at the level they initially prescribed, with minimal side effects, you should have stayed at that level ?
To me, it’s patently unfair to post medication experiences like this with an inflammatory title like “adderall made me crazy”.
REPORT ABUSESome people who don’t respond to Ritalin do respond to Dexedrine, another of the tried and true stimulants. There are also long acting versions of it available.
Also, may I ask what it was that had you feeling so bad while on Concerta? What kind of side effects did you exerpeince? And did you use the drug for just one day or more to see if the medication itself was the issue?
REPORT ABUSEJanuary 3, 2011 at 4:23 pm in reply to: 40 years old and seeking medication for the first time #98634Wendellk-
I’m surprised your doctor is starting with Wellbutrin. For ADD, it is being prescribed “off label” and has had only moderate success as a treatment.
Aren’t front line drugs like Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall, Concerta and Strattera normally prescribed first?
REPORT ABUSESorry guys, but I’m strongly of the viewpoint that medical pot is just an excuse to get high and hide from life.
There are far more optimal medications available to treat every “issue” people try and justify it for.
REPORT ABUSEDecember 31, 2010 at 6:25 am in reply to: 40 years old and seeking medication for the first time #98623Distracted- thanks for sharing your story so far. It’s always great to read about what has worked for others.
Ray-
I’m curious if you ever had vertigo issues before the meds? I never experienced that as a “side effect” but have always had problems with heights. Never had the farting, but my stomach doesn’t like the meds if it’s empty.
I too have had the scalp tingle. There’s a name for it, but I forget right now. It is an interesting feeling, for sure! The first time it occured, was while I was taking a whizz. After that it occured on it’s own sometimes too. I’m getting that again now, 1.5 weeks into a 25mg dose. Before meds, I would get that same tingle when my girlfriend’s hair brushed my face just right. I kind of enjoy it, actually – it’s kind of sexual for me.
The first time I tried Strattera (for 3 or 4 weeks maybe?) I actually found it restored my energy level. I never felt down or lethargic. I’d actually wake up and WANT to get out of bed and do stuff too.
What was REALLY interesting was playing hockey on the stuff. Imagine that tingly feeling, but slightly subdued and all over your body. Every shift was like that – and it energized me even more. I skated like a bat out of hell, played with a purpose and focus I had never felt before all the while tingling from head to toe. It’s really hard to describe, but when you feel it full body it really is almost like an ongoing sexual release.
So…..it’s not all bad
