make a chore chart. who the hell cares how old they are. do it. make a chart that puts everyone on a schedule. make it all pretty and colorful. hahahaha

act as though you and your kids are running a business. you have “hours of operation” and certain tasks need to be completed, before they can “clock out”. List everything on the chart.. meetings, family functions, whatever you all do on a weekly basis… and refer to it. man i wish i could send you one on here. let me see about posting one on my blog for an example. gotta run!

baaaaaaaahahahahahaha, that sounds like me before meds. hahahahaha. now i can totally focus and clean; however, my focus is usually lost the most trivial non-priority of things to be cleaned…. like say, the laundry room. or uhm, rearranging my sewing tools. which look FAB by the way, but yeah… i still didn’t get to the kitchen or the laundry, or the bathrooms. oh well…. there’s always tomorrow! hahahaha

    great log lianne!

Simoski wrote: “BTW I may be a bit obtuse but isn’t “am i prepared to do whatever it takes to make this cycle stop?” vs “I need to discover what it is that is preventing me from using the gifts that I have been given” pretty much the same as “you say tomato I say tomauto”? LOL”

i suppose so… hahahahaha. but i also wrote… “it’s a lot to deal with this “late in the game”. i believe that thought is what is actually holding you back… and is preventing you from answering the preparedness question.”

the thoughts of “it would have been nice to have been diagnosed and treated 20 years ago” are what’s holding you back, sim.

i was diagnosed 12 years ago and was in denial. i was not emotionally or spiritually ready for the journey as i am now. so to me it made now difference other than being more mature now.

    tootles!

dude, i’m so sorry to hijack your post here, but….

BISHOP!!! i’m so proud of you. do you remember how you were feeling about two weeks ago? http://totallyadd.com/forum/topic.php?id=90 dude, what you posted here…. wow, you are so positive. *beaming with pride*

Simoski, i can see you are a “like to write/tell stories kinda guy”. you not related to my ex-step dad are you? hahahahaha, you “sound” just like him. i would say that view on this is, “At this point in my life I need to discover what it is that is preventing me from using the gifts that I have been given to provide for my family without struggle, NOW!”… you’re at an age right now where you feel very vulnerable and weak. you’re looking back on your life and all it’s failures and you are trying to come to terms with it all. it’s getting more and more difficult for you to just “get over it”.

perhaps it’s as simple as you not facing things…. not conquering the things that you’d always set out to do, but never did. b/w the ages of 28 and 32, you go through a life’s “crisis”. if you get through that, your next is in your 40’s then again in your 50’s… pretty much every time you turn a decade older. how you come out of that time in your life (where your snow globe is shaken a bit), determines how rewarding you feel your life is. it’s like that for everyone, it’s just that some people go through that time period feeling more confident… they’ve learned something, they move on… not doomed to repeat those failures, but us– it’s different.

unless we’re emotionally ready to come to terms with absolutely everything…. no time is a good time. so at this point don’t tell yourself that you need to find out what it is that is preventing you from using your gifts, but rather “am i prepared to do whatever it takes to make this cycle stop?”.

it’s a lot to deal with this “late in the game”. i believe that thought is what is actually holding you back… and is preventing you from answering the preparedness question.

    ok, that was a rant.

    be well.

nedi pot (sp?)….i think that’s what it’s called. i use nasonex for my allergies. i don’t take an antihistamine or decongestant anymore. try flushing your nose, it does help.

    good luck!

    you are so funny bishop!

yeah, it took me reading it twice to “get it”… but then again i used to play D&D with my bro so it was an analogy that i completely understood. hee hee

Oh and Elizabeth, i didn’t write it… just spreading the word. the person who wrote it is on my personality forum. that individual has ADD and replied to one of my posts with this. it’s an interesting perspective. :D

and for the ADDer, here’s a sum up…..

in all our heads we have dice. ADD and non-ADDers. we have several with many different numbers. each has its own color shape and number order. when a non-ADDer wants to talk about something they pull out their die and put it on the table… in the instance above, they pulled a #5 on their 6 sided die (so the #5 is the subject to which they are bringing up). they think in their heads that you will respond to #5, but you reach into your chaotic bag of dice and bring out the wrong die. so the frustration begins with the non-ADDer as you two talk about every die and number under the sun, BUT the #5 initially brought up.

the cycle continues leaving everyone involved in disarray. it’s no fun, but those of us that can understand it and have support, will get through it all.

    good luck to everyone.

sorry to hear about your loss.

all these thoughts are completely normal. i used to feel “jealous” of those who find their niche also…. my sister is one that i’d always envied. she just knew what she wanted to do by the age of 18. i’m 32 and still don’t know. hahahaha

a machine would be awesome! i would want to make a “time/add(hd) machine”…. so once they understand where i’m coming from we could go back to the scenario with their new perspective and try again. :D however, i can say this. now that i’m at my acceptance stage… the first thing i did was apologize to all sorts of people. i’ve made phone calls to the ones that are still talking to me and emails to those that are not. not only for them, but for me… for everyone to get closer on events that may have been taken out of context or blown out of proportion. facing things is hard, but so worth it.

don’t fret about employers (unless your email has shadow in it, too. if it does…. i recommend you getting an email addy that is solely for job searches. make it a first, last name… plus a number @whateveremailprovider.com (just a suggestion).

someone in another post mentioned things about how people are quick to scoff if the condition is “in your head”. for the most part our brain functionality is still so foreign to people that any mental condition is deemed “scoff worthy” at times. hell, look how long it has taken for people to really truly start advocating and understanding autism.

just make the best with what you have. when life gives you lemons… make lemonade!

    be well (((hugs)))

well, glen… and anyone else interested…. here’s the update:

i went in on wednesday to see my doc. told him my concerns (won’t get into details)… he prescribed XR, instead of the regular. and he told me that the issues of the ticks and the adhd together should be handled by someone who specializes in this (i’m grateful that he was honest in his lack of knowledge on the subjects). he recommended a doc to have me go sit with for those issues and overall mental health.

AAAAAAND…. she’s totally covered by my insurance!! woot! woot!

emailed her and she’s available. just have to see about getting my schedule in order to go in and see her. i’m very very excited!

thanks for all the info! *high five*

curious wrote:”As this seems to be the ladies + Mike page, I post my question here:

I started on meds >3 months ago (dose increase every month). The last 2 months, the week before my periods, I feel exhausted, sleeping bad, can’t get anything done, am very inefficient etc. I can’t recall feeling like this before. Does anyone experience the same and could it has something to do with the meds? “

i was experiencing this prior to the meds. it’s like clockwork. i know the day that i start feeling like this, it’s about 5 to 7 days till my moon starts. now, with the meds, i feel it…. but i’m less irritated and i feel as though i’m like that person from the twilight zone, where his body can’t move, but he can hear and see everything that’s going on around him. i’m completely aware that i’m not completing things i need to, my mind is racing of all the things i need to get done, but i just can’t shake the exhaustion! this last time i just warned my hubby and he understood it was a “lay-low” week for me when i got home from work. and the minute my moon starts, i’m totally “back to normal”.

    it’s odd, huh?!

    Has anyone else experienced this?”

dude, i to this day cannot forget the hellish teacher i had in fourth grade. she made me feel so stupid, b/c i was so smart about math, art, science… and anything visual, but sucked at reading comprehension. she would constantly tell me that i wasn’t trying hard enough and that she should fail me. grrrrr…. sucks that she is still teaching at that school. this “G” rated site will not allow me to say what i truly would have said to her had i not been raised properly.

then, in the 11th grade, i had a teacher that was heaven sent from angel. for the first time in my school history she worked with me to help me get through some difficult books. mind you i still had to read some pages twice or more to “get them”, but b/c of my english lit teacher in high school, it wasn’t a chore, it became an adventure! now i love reading for leisure and for work.

reading is FUNdemental, for me! hee hee

nice! well, i was watching the movie the other night with my kids and just started laughing, b/c she totally reminded me of things that i would do.

on type c they listed her as an ENFP. i thought that was funny also. hahahahaha

we should list other movie, or book characters that we think have it. hee hee

“The introverted and extroverted I would guess has more to do with whether you fall into the purely Inattentive subtype of ADHD or the Combined Subtype which also includes Impulsivity and Hyperactivity with the Inattention.”

i’ve always understood that the difference b/w intro and extroversion is the way you handle stressful situations. or stress in general. i’m an extrovert…. when i’m stressed i release it by being around people… feeding off of their energy. love me some happy hour. hahaha

my hubs, introvert. stress = an hour or two of alone time for him (he’s not a ADDer), but that’s how he releases and “re-energizes” himself… by gardening, or playing vid games.

    bro, introvert, has ADD.

    me, extrovert, have ADHD.

the heart and head thing you discuss is like the color personality types in a book that was recommended to me. “personality, what’s love got to do with it”. it basically talks about what myers briggs discusses, but in a manner which people will understand the concept.

    it’s all interesting non-the-less.
