I’m just saying that in a professional forum, such as the one I administer, no one can post such items – words or pictures, and breaking that or certain other rules gets a user banned. Including trying to trick the “bad word filter”. There are reasons, and all behind the creation of the forum agreed they didn’t want such things.

Doesn’t matter that they can hear it in school, or from others in public – does any of that make it right? We’ve desensitizes the general public, and it starts with kids.

I guess since I don’t or can’t understand the not liking LOL ya might help me understand why……

. It was in use well before bratty 12 year olds and spoiled teens had parent-paid-for cell phones. We were using it before there was a big public internet – back about 1992, when CompuServe was king. In fact, all such “abbreviations” were in common use way before the Internet. I know, some adults seem to believe they are teen things, recent, used by kids – where do you think the kids got it? Adults like me back when……….. before texting, before POP3 email, before cell phones. Men invented it probably 20+ years ago ;-)

So maybe to help me understand – you could explain – just like I can explain why I don’t like today’s country music or profanity on public general use forums.

Personally, and no offense, profanity on public forums intended to not be “free-for-alls” like some of the drag race forums, is childish. Is it there to prove something? Or to say something that can’t otherwise be understood. That’s how I feel. It’s not professional, one can be fired for using that word in certain work places, and even though kids might hear it elsewhere, why spread it and desensitize them

    or

make it harder for parents who wish their kids to not use it?

I guess them’s my thoughts on it.

Keep in mind, I’m untreated AD/HD multi, etc. with some sensitivity issues……. and since I used LOL just shortly before you posted….and I’m a 53 year old male who has used it for nearly 20 years…… :-/

why should you feel embarrassed? Show me a perfect human being – in either appearance or mind?

It would seem from the numbers I see around here that you are probably not alone, even in your school or work………….

You for sure are not alone here!

I think we are all brothers and sisters – we’ve simply not met yet.

(I wonder what a gathering of the forum members would be like – all together in one place…..)

Man how many times have I heard “just pick something” or seen folks get a bit upset when I’m in the line at a buffet, unable to make up my mind on what sort of potato I want!

OK, you can come over to my place and put in a radiant electric heat system in my shop, and install a thermostat that I can control from my web-enabled phone so if I”m on my way home I can turn up the heat and work in my shop when I get there.

Then you can finish connecting my stereo system (sitting part finished for going on 2 years this next January)

OK – if this is a possible result, I’m going to make SURE I go get assistance:

    >>Externally, my wife noticed a lot of changes. The principle changes she noted were:

    – more pleasant to be around

    – no emotional blow-back from interruptions

    – reduced temper flair ups when “mother nature” was being uncooperative

    – more willing to engage in collaborative (and boring) household chores

    <<

WOW, do those things fit me –

I’m too afraid to hold my breath. I’m afraid I’ll pass out and forget to breath!

    I feel that way a lot………… so I guess we’re ALL nuts!

Maybe it’s a blessing you didn’t stay in the marines. Some of us tend to be, well, accident prone. There, it could lead to death – not only yours, but others as well………

You’d need to be sharp, on your best, on your guard, alert at all times and be able to pay attention like a cat staring down a bird for 10 minutes without blinking.

Bet neither of us can do that.

frankly, I hope you never grow up.

    How sad that must be……………..

I can relate to the “unfulfilled” bit – and needing to work to eat and pay bills. I’d rather have my own business again – but I’d need a partner to keep me on the straight and narrow, keep me moving.

    Advice:

Track everything that happens at work – the good, the bad, keep a log or journal. If the boss says something log it. If another employee messes up, log it.

Stay focused in the crisis or emergency of being yelled at or fired. Try REALLY hard to stay logical and organized.

You have weapons at your disposal – ink and paper, and a mind that can think in ways they can’t – use ’em.

A friend and co-worker here, who is a former union steward, etc. etc. said the best thing to do is to keep good records of all things good and bad. They can come in handy if fighting a termination.

I’m always irritable – is that part of this, or meds? I’m not on any meds, so I would hate to have to live with me if I was on meds and they wore off and my irritability was worse!

Is there another med that will do the trick with less side effect?

I agree that it’s a tight spot for a “company” too. Having been on “both sides”, we have to admit that companies exist to make money, to profit, not just to employ people to keep them off welfare. So it’s a balancing act – if the company can’t compete with another company that works faster or more effeciently, then that company will soon cease to exist, meaning ALL employees will be terminated. So, the company must find a way to compete – to get things done or made quickly, effeciently, and accurately, make money and still be “fair” about it all.

some companies will recognize a good employee and attempt to find a spot where they CAN work out. One large company I know, and used to work for, would actually offer the employee a different position in the company – a different “job” to do, They’d even train them to do that job if both sides felt it was a better fit. That company recognized it was cheaper and more effecient for them to keep good employees, even ones with “problems” as retraining and rehiring cost them money – plus every time they let one go, their unemployment insurance rates went up. Maybe they weren’t doing it out of the “goodness of their hearts” but there was economic reasons it made good sense to keep ’em and simply move them to a spot more suited for that employee. Actually, I must say in this company, it was partly because they honestly cared. Their saving money was the side effect for them.

Maybe the company can send the employee to training – to learn time management skills, organizational skills. It really can be a win-win, it’s just a matter of showing the “boss” that it makes sense, and is economically feasable.

Sounds harsh probably, but in this world, it seems we have to be able to work harder to prove ourselves.

I’ve been there. It’s especially hard today – with fewer jobs out there. I know personally- I’d be in a panic………

Anyone can “set you up to fail” – recogize it and don’t let it happen to you!

If I had our store today, I’d probably make a point of hiring ADD people, seriously………… thiings might take a little longer, but by golly when it’s done, it’s RIGHT! Not like these screw-offs who rush through projects and they are half-wrong, not well documented……. ugh.

curlymoe is right – when the boss says “we have a problem, and I need this by the end of the day” – and it involves a LOT of steps, I get it done before the end of the day and end up giving him more than requested. the more of an emergency it is, the better I am.

We get a computer hit by a virus, I”m in full swing and actually feel “high” and am SO organized and focused for those moments until I get things done. The key is matching the work to the person – of course, that’s key with ANY person!! Not just us……..

If I can survive, ANYONE can. I should have been dead several times. I’m here.

You just need to look around and find the glove that fits you. It’s not easy – if it was, I wouldn’t be here as I can do some pretty complex things.

The rather “funny” thing about it all with me – I find some project I’ve done in the past, or find plans I’ve drawn up for things I made, or think back at something I made or repaired or have otherwise done – and it’s like “that wans’t me, I can’t do those thing” or “I sure can’t recall doing that or even HOW I did it”.

I’ve fixed things that I don’t believe I have the skill to fix – and yet, at that time, when I needed it most, it was there for me. Where is it now? No way I could do the same thing again, I’m sure of it.

Weird, but let yourself get there and when you are there, what you need will be there too.

Doesn’t make sense, does it? It’s like my brain can’t hold all the skills I have, and I lose some of them so others can come forward when I need them. but if I need an old one again, I look back at my notes and scribbles, and I try the task – and wow, there it is again, but now I’ve lost what I had when I was doing yesterday’s task.

HAH – I don’t have the guts to give up – it’s too scary.

I’m 53, 3 careers (at least) and 10 jobs. Only “let go” from one, and they called it downsizing when they let over 70 of us go at the same time.

Wanted to be an electrician or go into electronics

ended up a mechanic because I’m a natural troubleshooter and problem solver and LOVE cars

Boss sold shop, I quit and went into……….. farming

Divorced, moved off farm, moved across state, got a job as electrician/networking

Left that job, got a job as properties and building manager, maintenance manager and communications manager (was called facilities and systems manager on my business cards)

Left that job, went into IT – network administration, computer repair, troubleshooting and antivirus/security administration

Left there, went into IT design, planning, antivirus and security administration.

Was downsized, went back into IT in a different job, as network administrator and security/antivirus administrator

    Bored………….

want to be a mechanic again, started side buisness repairing auto electric items – alternators, etc. for classic and antique cars.

YES YES ECinABw3 and modelabb70 – yes. You get it.

“I’m a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess”

Guys with ADD also seem to have a bit of an issue because big bad he-men aren’t supposed to have emotions or feel, or get down, or sad or cry and you know……. there’s all that BS. Hey, he-man gotta be with it, organized, on top of their game! Buck up, bud.

Maybe this week it seems worse due to the “awareness” from seeing part of the show and finding this site, but this has been happening now for a couple of months with me – MORE forgetful, MORE wasting time than ever, MORE indecision. Maybe I just don’t remember how bad it was a year ago, and it’s really not changed?

I can’t say that I have PERSONALLY worked with or been around a woman with ADD or AD/HD. MAYBE I have and at the time just thought to myself – now there’s a really cool gal! ;-)

I hear ya – just remember, they aren’t normal and not capable of “getting it”. Their more simple minds can’t grasp concepts they don’t understand. Human linear thinking requires that to have one thought, all others must be gone. To prove a theory, they try to disprove it.

Don’t give up – don’t let them beat you. (HA, when I hear some of that I SO want to reply “and I’m really tired of hearing you talking” but resist the urge)

Some of my favorite lyrics explain it pretty well………

One more tree will fall how strong the growing vine

Turn the earth to sand and still commit no crime

*How one thought will live provide the others die*

For I have riches more than these

For I have riches more than these
