Welcome Carrie! You are definitely not alone. We have all been there. Don’t fear your future. Because now, you are armed with knowledge and support. Your life will make a whole lot more sense now. We are all on this journey together. Yes, the world still has a long way to go with understanding and accepting ADD for what it is. But as we share our experiences, you will see that we are many and we are real. In time, the world will have no choice but to accept us and adapt accordingly. Please, feel free to tell us your experiences, concerns and questions. There’s nothing better than a support group who knows exactly how you feel. It also doesn’t hurt to have a few experts on hand ( Dr J, Rick, etc) to really give you the down and dirty of it. Again Welcome!

I am now on 50 mg, The change is amazing. I can focus much better on conversations. I can stay on track with tasks (mostly). It does make me a little speedy for the first couple hours but it levels out after. And it last at least 12 hours. I am sure some people have problems with it, but for me, it sure helps.

I agree. I am thankful for my NON ADD wife. She is my rock in the crazy rapids of my brain.

I just posted about this in another thread. But I thought I’d share here too. I started Vyvanse a month ago. The Dr is still trying different dosages on me to see how much I need. But I will say, so far, I love it. My body feels the stimulant, but It calms my mind . My mind is not racing as much and I don’t become instantly overwhelmed at times like I used to. My focus problems still need some work. I like the time-release aspect of it too. Sometimes, it lasts a good 12 hours or more. I have not experienced any negative side effects. It does suppress my appetite, but that is a good thing, for me anyway. I have no problems with irritability or insomnia.

I just started meds about 4 weeks ago. I take Vyvanse. I am still in the “finding the right dosage” phase. So far, I’ve noticed that it does slow my mind down but I am still unable to manage time well at all. It lets me focus on the task at hand more readily but it also makes me blabber too much. So yeah, there are issues. I am still trying to figure out what exactly it improves, what it doesn’t and what other things are negatively impacted.

Yesterday. I just discovered that I’ve been wearing unmatched tennis shoes for the last two weeks! I realized it when I was cleaning mud off the bottom tread and they were not the same. ARRRGHH.

Welcome Irisheyes! I know how ya feel. I like to join all sorts of forums that have my interests but I always fall away eventually because I feel like I have nothing to add to them. I just never seem to commit to making friends, even if it’s online. But this site is the first I’ve been on that I just seem to belong… finally.! I mean.. what better place to experience all that crazyness in my head than somewhere populated by those who are feeling the same way?

Saffron, I have all those exact issues! And also.. I’m the one who makes about 5 lists a day, of things I want to do or remember, and then lose the lists or put them somewhere that I can’t get to or find when I need them. Or…. I’m the one who believes, hearing a restaurant hostess say ” It will be about a 15 minute wait “, is equal to hearing ” you’re gonna need a root canal on that tooth”!!

Yes. Sports are great for our racing minds. I’m a part time cyclist as well. And martial arts definitely helped me a lot. I was in Kenpo for years. and I ate it up! I am a member of two forums : this one (ADD) and my other addiction. It is an activity that I’ve discovered was perfect for ADD. Well, it is for me anyway. But I want to share it here because I bet a lot of you ADD peeps would love it. And it’s free. It is little known but has a huge community. Recreational Tree Climbing!. Yes, tree climbing. But.. it is NOT exactly what you think. It has come a long way since I was a kid. Now , you do it with ropes, harness and carabiners. You never hurt the trees and it is totally safe if done correctly. It is as close to flying as you can get from the ground. There is little that is more exhilarating for an ADD mind than hanging peacefully in the canopy of a tree, 60 feet in the air (or 100 or 200), and smelling, seeing and feeling the surroundings. If it sounds cool, look it up online. (or ask me! I need climbing partners!) There are plenty of cool sites. Here a good place to start.. http://www.treeclimbercoalition.org/whatistreeclimbing.cfm or http://www.treeclimbing.com/. Also… for ADD treatment, I think Paintball, Archery and Swimming are great therapy. Peace..

I work in telecommunications, doing wiring and hooking up equipment for internet, TV and phone service in people’s homes. One of the worst frustrations for me is completing a lengthy and complicated installation only to have it NOT work for some reason! On more than one occasion, I have spent (wasted) hours, tearing apart wiring, removing wall jacks and crawling through attics looking for broken wire or bad equipment, then eventually discovering I had simply forgot to plug in a cable ! AARRGGGH!

I was raised Catholic. There was no hope for me to ever pay attention in mass or CCD. I also never rationalized why all these rules! I ran from it all in my teens. I eventually came back to GOD and am still Christian but could not conform to man-made rules. I believe that Spirituality is God-made and Religion is man-made . But whatever your beliefs, untreated ADD makes it so much MORE confusing! Since I began medication, I have actually been able to focus while I pray. There is an inherit beauty in finally being able to tune in more deeply. Peace!

Loud noises? hell yes. Especially sudden or repetitive ones. Car alarms, Dogs barking, back-up signals… ARRGGHH. TV too loud drives me insane. I sleep with a pillow over my head just so I wont hear any sudden noises to annoy me. And yes, some noises dont bother me. I am a drummer. I am fine with that noise….. but when someone else is playing drums right near me. ouch,.

Switching jobs and not going too deep into any of them is textbook ADD. I’ve done so many things, I can’t even remember them all. Army, Navy, EMT, Electrician, Telephone tech, casket factory, furniture mover, pizza maker, movie theatre, and on and on…..and those are only some of the jobs. There are countless other things I’ve done as a volunteer or for recreation. I love to learn new things but hate to devote too much time to it. Uuhhggggg.
