Home groups are definitely a great support resource. And yes, they need some type of structure and direction. But it must be conducive to the ADD mind.

And for the issue of having an ADDer have to plan it; perhaps several people can help do it. Maybe a rotating location or leader each time. Or a team of leaders to put it together. Maybe preselect a book for all to read, then discuss at the group, or have everyone list all the topics and issues they would like to bring up, then schedule them into the group plan. Perhaps even use online experts and websites to pre-plan or debrief the meetings.

Another great tool, as I stated before, would be for an ADD website, like this, to host a way to get others connected. A database of contact people and locations, (perhaps with a map) that are looking for local groups. I’ve seen this work well in other interest-related online groups. Heck, I’ll even volunteer to help with getting it started, if necessary.

    :D

I love video games but I also love board games. I play really big, really strategic war games and such. Lots of focus!

One more note….. If you ever hope to accomplish any meaningful tasks at the computer… Avoid the “Eternal and Absolute Black Hole Of Time” – also known as Youtube. If you see an email or Facebook post with a Youtube video link.. DO NOT click on it. Doing so ensures a swift and severe trainwreck of time management. You’re Welcome :)

Also.. I’m sure I’m not the only ADDer who, in order to accomplish important tasks on the computer, has to actually make a list of things to do and websites to visit. If I don’t have a plan, I will sit down with the intention of getting several mandatory tasks completed and end up 3 hours later having done absolutely nothing. I can’t even count the number of times I have finally stood up from the computer to continue with my day and noticed a window on the screen that is still open, clicked on it… and was quickly reminded that I still haven’t made the mortgage payment I sat down to do. ARRGG.

@ Captain: yes. I have, since, discovered the joyous wonder of AdBlock. Soooooo much more tolerable to browse now. And, when I use someone else’s computer, the first thing I say is ” AHHH! Ads!!! Get AdBlock! Now!!”

Internet… yes. A miracle. It completely changed our world. But for ADD folk, it can be a black hole of time. I have a few sites that I visit every single time I boot up. I check my mail. read the news and so forth. Then as times permits (ha!), I delve deeper into the abyss of binary bits and bytes known as the web. I sit down to just check my mail and see the latest news for a few minutes before I have to run off for an appointment.. Then “a few minutes” later, I look up and 2 hours have gone by! Arrggg1 It can fascinate me and it can irritates me to death.

Yahoo (and other major clients). Yes, free mail. But at what price? And where the hell do they come up with their news stories? Is a dog doing a funny trick really a top story ? And .. those @#&”% animated ads !! cartoon people bouncing up and down or racing across the screen. They drive me absolutely insane! Anyone else ?? I have to shrink my windows, move them half way off screen, open up other windows to cover them, or whatever I think of… just to make them stop! I understand they are just grabbing my attention to sell me something. But I guess they do not realize that grabbing the attention of an ADDer is like shooting fish in a barrel. They are kryptonite for my ADD brain. They think they are tapping us on the shoulder to offer a good deal. But what are doing to ADDers is hurling a metal garbage can at our heads..

Anyway, yes, internet. Love it! It is brain candy!

    Peace all

Yes. Games. My all time fav PC game is Diablo. I’ve been a nut from the beginning. Can’t wait for D3. But also, my other fav is a strategy board game. Axis & Allies. Been playing that for life. I even made a giant board and a bunch of new stuff for it. Talk about hyperfocusing …. geesh!.

I think games are a natural attraction for a lot of ADDers. It’s most likely the hyperfocusing in a virtual world. The thrill of battle, the exhilaration of sport, the intellectual challenge of the quest. It’s brain candy. I’m definitely a gamer. Have been for life. Board games, video console games, PC games, all of it. Of course I have a million other hobbies as well. But yes, games…..

Jim, I know how you feel. I combat the dry mouth by drinking lots of water, which I needed to do more anyway. Also, I chew sugerless gum and that helps alot. As for the tense, speediness: Make sure you aren’t getting any caffeine. That only magnifies the anxious and tense feelings. When I started Vyvanse, I couldn’t drink a cup of coffee without going bonkers. I am able to have a cup or two now though, without much trouble. For the first few hours every day, I am always conciously slowing myself down. My wife is always saying ” slow down. Stop talking so much”. I stop and take slow breaths and remind myself that the world doesn’t always WANT to hear my 50,000 ideas about how to create the greatest invention in history. :) anyway , hang in there!

How about if we just post a Google map to our house, or maybe our bank account info? Just kidding ! Yes, privacy can be an issue. I wouldn’t recommend putting up any private info, if it is viewable by 5 billion people. But anyone who reads these forums can surely benefit in some way. But, just as with anywhere else on the internet, we just need to be smart about what we reveal. I’m sure a first name or nickname, your country and even province or city is pretty harmless.

Hey all. I am considering switching to Adderall. Reason is.. I recently became unemployed and wont have insurance for a little while and need a cheaper alternative. I am currently taking Vyvanse and really love it. But it will cost $175.00 for 30 day supply without insurance !! I have heard a lot about Adderall being a close relative to Vyvanse with same base ingredients and a lot cheaper. Anyone know more about this? I’m in the states and it does appear that meds here are a lot more expensive than Canada. One thing for sure is I do not want to stop taking meds right now. I am really getting the focus and clarity from meds, that I need for job hunting. Anyone ?

I have a lot of issues with noise. When my family watches action movies on TV, I have to leave the room or cover my ears a lot. They always complain if I turn it down or they roll their eyes if I cover my ears. But those sudden loud noises drive me crazy ! I can almost feel my blood pressure rise. Same goes for loud clapping when close by me or sudden loud voices. I have learned that sleeping with a pillow over my head is the best way to insure no sudden loud noises will startle me. I can understand (to some minor degree) how autistic people feel. yikes!
